Welcome to GeneStream! By using our website or services, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use GeneStream.

1. Who We Are

GeneStream ("we," "our," "us") provides an online platform for storing, managing, and collaborating on biological designs and bioengineering projects.

2. Eligibility

Age Requirement: You must be at least 13 years old to use GeneStream. If you are under 18, you must have your parent or guardian's permission.

By using GeneStream, you represent that you meet these age requirements and have the authority to enter into this agreement.

3. Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and all activities that occur under your account. You agree to:

  • Provide accurate and complete information when creating your account
  • Keep your login credentials secure and confidential
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account
  • Use only one account per person

4. Your Content and Intellectual Property

You retain ownership of all intellectual property rights in the content you create or upload to GeneStream.

Public vs. Private Content:

  • If you mark your content as private, we will not share it without your permission
  • Public content may be viewed, forked, and built upon by anyone
  • You can change privacy settings for your repositories at any time

Your Responsibilities: You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload and share any content, and that your content does not infringe on others' intellectual property rights.

By uploading public content, you grant other users a license to view, fork, and build upon your designs under the terms you specify (or our default open collaboration terms).

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use GeneStream to:

  • Engage in illegal activities or violate any laws or regulations
  • Upload malicious code, viruses, or attempt to disrupt our service
  • Violate the intellectual property rights of others
  • Harass, threaten, or abuse other users
  • Share designs intended to cause harm to humans, animals, or the environment
  • Attempt to reverse engineer or compromise our security
  • Use automated tools to scrape or overload our servers

Responsible Innovation: While we support open scientific collaboration, we expect users to consider the ethical implications of their biological designs and follow relevant biosafety guidelines.

6. Beta Service Disclaimer

Beta Notice: GeneStream is currently in beta. The service may change, have bugs, or be temporarily unavailable without notice.

We provide the service "as is" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.

7. Service Availability and Modifications

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of GeneStream at any time. We will provide reasonable notice for planned maintenance or significant changes, but cannot guarantee advance notice for emergency maintenance.

8. Account Suspension and Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, harm the service, or engage in abusive behavior. We will provide notice when possible, but reserve the right to take immediate action for serious violations.

You may terminate your account at any time. Upon termination, your private content will be removed according to our Privacy Policy, but public content may remain available.

9. Limitation of Liability and Indemnification

To the fullest extent permitted by law, GeneStream will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to data loss, service interruptions, or security incidents.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless GeneStream from any claims arising from your use of the service, your content, or your violation of these terms.

10. Governing Law and Disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Delaware, United States. Any disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration or in the courts of Delaware.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our service or legal requirements. If we make material changes, we will post the updated terms with a new effective date and notify you via email or through our platform.
